intelligent, insightful and very personal. <3. Radicalisation by internet (on any topic) seems to be very dfiniteively indicated in the science literature with most data scientists agreeing it is the single greatest radicalisation tool in history by a large margin. If it helps - I am trying to be a critical trans feminist and no one likes me in either group (socialisation / biological). I went through a strong phase of nihilism initially (and this certainly included thinking that society didn't really care for social justice - which I still believe wholeheartedly today), but afterwards found that there are a lot of both women and trans women who can have complex dissonant thoughts about gender and sex and debate intelligently and with care on issues where their respective rights may well collide and can actually build one another up. Much love and thank yous. Kim

This frustrating af to read, you start off with "I've BEEN intentionally vague" like your not about to sidestep every oppurtunity to make any clear conclusive point before moving on to the next vague "point in the discourse" that you will of course also not conclude on.

As well as some awful simplifications of the positions on both sides to force your lib-brained repulsion of any definitive statement of fact.

Calling yourself a materialist made me lol

Like if youre going to be so nuanced here you also have to start out with what your position is on the terms themselves going in, or like go in depth enough on one point so its settled.

Its like, this is exactly the level of discourse you already get on twitter, vague gesturing towards having a more correct position than others without having to set any positions yourself.

Like this was so frustrating to read as someone looking for someone who was hopefully going to lay out their nuanced position in a longer format than twitter, you know?

Absolutely phenomenal insight. I found myself in the gender critical world as a pediatrician deeply concerned with the issues around pediatric transitioning. I still mostly consume information related to evidence around gender diverse youth, but of course can easily find myself in a rad fem rabbit hole. The prison situation, I think, is one of the most egregious and dangerous situations due to gender ideology. But I have definitely noticed an uncomfortable dismissal of trans women’s concerns about their own safety. I think of someone like the actress Hunter Schafer who transitioned without a male puberty and clearly interacts with the world as a woman. Requiring her to share single sex spaces with males would be mad and dangerous. I think the future will find some balance where safety is prioritized—starting with getting rid of self ID for sex offenders trying to get into women’s prisons, but not going so far as to force someone like Hunter into uncomfortable and dangerous situations as well.

Gender ideology is mad and doesn’t interact with reality. It’s important that people who are GC are the ones offering realistic and safe alternatives, not just behaving in ways that are easy to dismiss as transphobic. If arguments are clearly just rooted in disgust and desire to exclude with no room for nuance, then the entire movement is able to be dismissed and we’re stuck at square one.

This was a painful read. Not because of what you intended with this article - I think it's a good start. But it made me feel like an abstract thing, an object, that is picked apart for some theoretical circlejerk. I honestly just want to live my life and being able to take part in normal activities without harassment. (well, at least down to a "normal" amount we women get anyways) I want my girlfriend to be able to walk her dog without getting bottles thrown at her ... But I digress...

If I can have one recommendation for you: https://taliabhattwrites.substack.com/

An indian trans woman who is a radical feminist. She has a great series on transmisogyny.

@sadbrowngirl is also worth a read.
